The fallen leaves are a great resource for use around the farm. Here are three ways we are using them.
Firstly as bedding in the chicken run. The hens stay in the run in the morning or when we ar away to protect them from foxes. A pile of leaves gives them something to occupy themselves while they are inside and breaks down to build up the soil.

Secondly the leaves are a good mulch around the nut trees. A layer of mulch on top of the leaves stops them from blowing away.

Thirdly they make a good winter cover for the garden beds. Mowing them breaks them down quicker and mixed with grass they make a more fluffed up mulch. Grass on its own makes a thick matt that is harder for water to penetrate.
